Oriental, Aromatic, Spicy
Nutmeg and patchouli from Indonesia; pepper and sandalwood from India; pimiento, tobacco and gaiac wood from the Americas… Caravelle Épicée conjures the wooden flanks of ships steeped with the aromas of their exotic cargo – the treasures of the Old and New World –against a sensuous amber backdrop.
An ode to spices composed by Jeanne-Marie Faugier.
If cognac was born to travel, it is because the delicate wine of the Charente couldn’t stand the trip.
To improve it, the Dutch distilled it into brandewijn. When this brandy was distilled a second time to concentrate its aromas, cognac was born. In this guise, the precious bottles could withstand long journeys aboard the ships that carried it all over the world, bringing back spices and precious woods from their far-flung destinations.
Caravelle Épicée tells the story of this historic link between cognac and the maritime Spice Road opened by the caravels of the Age of Exploration.
